KilimoVision

Crop disease detection that works without the internet.

A mobile app that uses edge computing to detect crop diseases in real time, directly on the phone. I trained a MobileNetV2-based CNN and made it small enough to run on the device. A farmer photographs a leaf and gets a diagnosis in the field, with no internet connection needed.

KilimoVision CBO is the agriculture-focused technology initiative that grew alongside the app.

Research project

Distributed Database System

A distributed database spanning MySQL and PostgreSQL environments, built with vertical and horizontal fragmentation. Python scripts and SQL automate how data is split up, distributed and put back together.

    • Analyse client operational data to judge whether businesses are viable, modelling gross margin, inventory turnover, unit economics and cash flow.
    • Clean and validate intake surveys and site-visit data into auditable client profiles that feed credit scoring, due diligence and loan disbursement.
    • Design and deliver data literacy and business management training for entrepreneurs in Somali, Swahili and English.
